Shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, crews were dispatched to the 1400 block of Gerald Street, near Bentley Court, when a family smelled smoke and made an emergency call.

Upon arrival, crews were met by flames showing from the garage, which had spread to the rest of the home, causing "significant damage."

It took a team of around 75 firefighters approximately a half hour to get the fire under control, but not before it damaged four rooms on the first floor, several on the second, and part of the attic.

Investigators estimate that the fire caused upwards of $550,000 in damage.

One family was displaced.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, possibly ignition sources, lawn mower, a car battery, garage door opener, or light, officials said.
